UTV and ATV Plow Options

What WESTERN® actually builds for utility vehicles, and an upfront note about what we do and don't cover.

Quick Answer

WESTERN® builds the IMPACT™ line for full-size UTVs and subcompact tractors, in a 6-foot straight blade and a 6-foot V-plow. Both are real commercial-grade plows, not scaled-down toys. Note the distinction: IMPACT is engineered for UTVs and tractors, not for smaller ATVs. Important for our customers: we can order UTV plows for you, but we do not service them. If in-house service matters to you, a truck plow is the better path.

UTV plows come up often, usually from people who already own a side-by-side and figure they may as well put it to work. That's reasonable, and WESTERN builds good equipment for it. But we'd rather tell you where we fit into this before you read three pages and find out at the counter.

What we do and don't do

We can order UTV and ATV plows. If you want a WESTERN IMPACT for your side-by-side, we can get it.

We do not service them. Our shops are set up for truck plows. If a UTV plow needs warranty work, hydraulic repair, or a part replaced mid-season, we're not the ones doing it.

That's the honest trade. Some people are fine ordering the equipment and handling their own upkeep. Others want the local backup that comes with a truck plow. Know which you are before you buy.

UTV is not ATV

These get lumped together and they shouldn't be. A UTV is a side-by-side with a real frame and meaningful payload: a Ranger, a Gator, a Defender. An ATV is a four-wheeler you sit astride. WESTERN's IMPACT line is engineered specifically for full-size UTVs and subcompact tractors. It's a substantial plow, and a smaller ATV isn't the intended vehicle for it. If you're on an ATV rather than a side-by-side, tell us that up front, because the answer is different.

The IMPACT line

WESTERN describes IMPACT as professional-grade, and the build backs it up. Both models use a 14-gauge powder-coated steel moldboard with a 5-inch high-carbon steel cutting edge. They're constructed from high-strength, low-alloy steel to keep weight off the UTV frame, and they use an easy-on, easy-off mounting system with removable receiver brackets so ground clearance and ramp angle stay usable when the plow is off.

Both include Scrape Lock, which holds the blade down for cleaner scraping and back dragging, and an independent trip-edge design with heavy-duty coil springs so hitting an obstacle doesn't wreck the plow. Control is a UTV-specific handheld unit that raises, lowers, and positions the blade.

The V-plow narrowing to a 5-foot path in V or full angle is the detail worth noticing. That's deliberate, so the plow clears standard sidewalks and fits through gates. For UTVs with a wider wheelbase, WESTERN offers an alternate width setting that opens those paths up.

From the shop

The people happiest with a UTV plow are the ones using it for what it's built for: sidewalks, walkways, tight areas around a building, and lot perimeters where a truck won't fit well. The ones who end up frustrated bought it expecting to clear a long rural driveway with it. That's a truck plow job. Match the tool to the ground.

What a UTV plow is good at

Tight work. Sidewalks, walkways, courtyards, gated areas, the perimeter of a lot where a full-size truck is clumsy. Property managers and municipal crews often run a UTV alongside trucks for exactly that reason, letting the truck handle the open pavement while the UTV does the detail work. As a complement to a truck it's excellent. As a replacement for one on a long driveway, it isn't.

"A UTV plow is a detail tool. Sidewalks and tight spots, not a quarter-mile driveway."

Ice control for UTVs

Worth knowing: WESTERN's Low Profile 500 tailgate spreader fits UTVs as well as pickups and SUVs. If you're already clearing sidewalks with a UTV, being able to treat them on the same pass is a genuine time saver. Same caveat applies on service, so plan accordingly.

FAQ

Does WESTERN make a plow for UTVs?
Yes. The WESTERN IMPACT line is built specifically for full-size UTVs and subcompact tractors, in a 6-foot straight blade and a 6-foot V-plow. Both use 14-gauge powder-coated steel moldboards with a 5-inch high-carbon cutting edge, trip-edge protection, and a UTV-specific handheld control.
Do you service UTV and ATV plows?
No. We can order UTV and ATV plows for you, but we do not service them. Our shops are set up for truck plows. If having local service and parts support matters to you, a truck plow is the better path.
Is the IMPACT plow suitable for an ATV?
It's engineered for full-size UTVs and subcompact tractors rather than smaller ATVs. If you're running an ATV instead of a side-by-side, tell us before you order, because the right answer is different.
How wide is a WESTERN UTV plow?
The IMPACT blade is 6 feet wide. In V mode or fully angled, the V-plow clears a 5-foot path, which is designed to fit standard sidewalks and pass through gates. In scoop it's 4 feet 7 inches. A wider setting is available for UTVs with a wider wheelbase.
Can a UTV plow replace a truck plow?
For sidewalks, walkways, tight areas, and lot perimeters, a UTV plow is excellent. For a long driveway or open pavement, it isn't a substitute for a truck plow. Many commercial operations run both, using each for what it does best.
Can I put a spreader on my UTV?
Yes. The WESTERN Low Profile 500 tailgate spreader fits UTVs as well as pickups and SUVs, so you can treat the same sidewalks you just cleared. The same service limitation applies.
