Will This Plow Fit My Truck?

The one number that decides fit, why a WESTERN® plow is not GM-only, and exactly what we need to confirm yours.

Quick Answer

Almost any pickup can run a WESTERN® plow. Which plow depends on your truck's front axle rating, not the brand. Half-tons take a light-duty plow like the HTS or Enforcer; three-quarter-ton and heavier trucks can carry commercial blades. The mount bracket and wiring are matched to your exact year, make, and model. Give us those three and we confirm the fit, or use Find My Fit.

This is the question we hear most, and it usually comes with a wrong assumption attached. People think fit is about whether a plow bolts onto their truck. It almost always does. The real question is whether your truck can carry that plow and still drive right. That comes down to one rating, plus two parts that get matched to your specific vehicle.

The one number that decides fit

It's your front gross axle weight rating, the front GAWR. It's on the sticker inside your driver's door jamb and in the owner's manual. The plow and its mount hang off the front of the truck, so their weight lands on that front axle. Stay under the rating and the truck plows well and lasts. Go over it and the nose sags, you lose traction, and you wear the front end out early.

That rating, not the truck's badge, is what sorts you into a light-duty plow or a commercial one. A half-ton lands in light-duty. A three-quarter-ton or one-ton can carry more.

Three parts to "fit"

  1. The plow classLight-duty for half-tons, commercial for heavier trucks. This is the front-axle question above.
  2. The mount bracketA vehicle-specific bracket bolts to your frame. Same plow, different bracket for a Ford vs. a Ram vs. a Chevy.
  3. The wiring harnessA plug-in harness matched to your truck's lights and electrical. This is what makes the plow controls work without cutting into your truck.

The plow itself is the same part across brands of truck. It's the bracket and harness that make it yours.

From the shop

The biggest myth we clear up: a WESTERN plow is not GM-only. We hear it constantly. The plow is the same whether you drive a Chevy, GMC, Ford, or Ram. We just fit the right mount and wiring for your truck. So yes, it fits your F-150 or your Ram 1500.

Does it fit my make?

Short version: yes, across the common half-ton and heavy-duty pickups. Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra, Ford F-150 and Super Duty, Ram 1500 and up. The plow doesn't change. The mount and harness do. If you drive something less common, tell us the year, make, and model and we'll check availability rather than guess.

What we need from you

To confirm fit and pull the right mount and wiring, we need three things:

"Year, make, and model. That's all it takes to tell you exactly what fits."

Year, make, and model of your truck. From that we confirm which plows fit, which bracket and harness you need, and what it runs installed. If you have the trim or cab configuration handy, even better, but year-make-model gets us most of the way.

How Find My Fit works

Rather than dig through fit charts, use the Find My Fit tool on the site. Enter your year, make, and model, and it shows only the WESTERN plows confirmed to fit your truck, with the right mount and wiring already matched. It takes about a minute and it's the fastest way to answer this question without a phone call.

Quick questions

Will a WESTERN plow fit my truck?Almost certainly. The plow fits with a mount and wiring matched to your year, make, and model.
Are WESTERN plows only for Chevy or GMC?No. They fit Ford, Ram, Chevy, and GMC. The plow is the same; the mount differs.
What decides which plow fits?Your front axle rating. Half-tons take light-duty; heavier trucks take commercial.
What do you need to confirm fit?Year, make, and model of your truck.
Can I put any plow on any truck? It may bolt on, but too much plow overloads the front end. Match it to the axle rating.
Does a half-ton fit a V-plow?Yes, a light-duty V-plow like the Enforcer.
Can you plow with an SUV or UTV?There are UTV plow options we can order. Ask us about your specific machine.
How fast can you tell me?In about a minute with Find My Fit, or one phone call.

FAQ

How do I know if a plow will fit my truck?
Fit comes down to your front gross axle weight rating and a vehicle-specific mount and wiring harness. Give us your year, make, and model, or run Find My Fit, and you'll see exactly which WESTERN plows fit and what mount and wiring you need.
Are WESTERN plows GM-only?
No. This is a common myth. WESTERN plows fit Ford, Ram, Chevrolet, and GMC trucks. The plow is the same across makes; only the mount bracket and wiring harness change to match your truck.
Can I put a commercial plow on a half-ton?
We do not recommend it. A commercial blade is too heavy for a 1500's front axle, which drags the nose down and cuts traction. Half-tons should run a light-duty plow like the HTS or Enforcer.
What if I drive an older or uncommon truck?
Tell us the year, make, and model and we'll check mount and wiring availability rather than guess. Many older and less common trucks still have options.
Can I move a plow from my old truck to a new one?
Often yes, if the plow is in good shape. You usually just need a different mount and wiring for the new truck. Bring both vehicles' details and we'll confirm what carries over.
